Road rules for cycling in Canberra

If you’re riding regularly, you’ll need to be familiar with the road rules that apply to people cycling on ACT roads and paths.

Did you know…

  • you must have a red reflector at the rear of your bike?
  • your bike must have a working bell?
  • people on bikes must give way to people walking on paths?
  • We’d like to expect all road users to be alert, aware, and to comply with the law. However, we can’t take this for granted. Know your rights, but don’t make assumptions about the behaviour of other road users. Ride carefully, safely, and predictably, and always be respectful of the other people you share the road with.

To help keep you safe and on the right side of the law, Cycle Works sponsors and Pedal Power legal partners Snedden Hall and Gallop talk us through the road rules that affect you as a bike rider in the ACT.
